CRESCENT CITY, CALIFORNIA

The next day our journey down the coast continued and carried us into Crescent City, California where we spent two nights. cc1.jpg (3471 bytes) cc2.jpg (3312 bytes) cc3.jpg (4081 bytes)

We stayed at a beach side RV park and could hear the barking of sea lions and a fog horn all through the night.  The next morning we found the source of the sea lion noise near an ocean side boat dock. cc10.jpg (5083 bytes) cc11.jpg (4953 bytes)

We had a view of a jetty running far out into the ocean from the RV, and toward the end of the jetty we could see white objects that defied explanation as to what they were.  This was a challenge to the eight year old. so he took a five mile run to solve the mystery.  They turned out to be giant reinforced concrete "things" that were placed there to hold the rocks in place against the pounding waves.

The next day we visited Battery Point to see a light house built back in the 1800's.  On the way we witnessed a titanic battle between a couple of squirrels and a sea gull for a bag of goodies left by a tourist.  The bird managed to run off one squirrel, but another took its place and just ignored the hapless bird. cc27.jpg (5349 bytes) cc28.jpg (7506 bytes)

When we started on our journey south toward San Francisco the next morning, fog hung heavy in the air and obscured some of the mountain tops.  We recorded some more stunning beach scenes in our memory banks as we headed into redwood country.

As the day wore on, we traveled through miles and miles of the big daddy's of trees... the redwoods.  There is no way to begin to capture the majesty of these trees in any picture form, but to follow is our feeble attempt. cc53.jpg (9434 bytes) cc54.jpg (5964 bytes) cc55.jpg (3955 bytes)
