SOUTH TAHOE, CALIFORNIA |
We left San Francisco on Monday morning, August 22, and headed east toward South Tahoe, California and Nevada. The morning traffic was an experience, and the driver gave a sigh of relief when we finally cleared Sacramento. The four year old hid out in the back of the RV. As we climbed into the mountains, the scenery made the mornings drive worth while.

The first opportunity into the mountains, we stopped for a rock hunt in a scenic creek beside the road.

We found a campground on the Nevada side of South Tahoe, and did a wildlife study on a hungry squirrel, and a curious blue jay that was drinking from a dripping water faucet.
The next morning, we did "tourist things" and saw some of the sights around Lake Tahoe. The lake is crystal clear, and the ducks enjoy all the comforts of home.

The hot air balloons were flying across the lake, and we caught one landing on a chase boat. We also saw a water skier with a parasail.

Our last stop was at Heavenly Valley Ski Resort, minus snow... thus minus skiers.

We begin to lose the trees to the drier desert like terrain we will get used to over the next few weeks as we head down the mountain toward Reno, Nevada.
