DOWNTOWN HAUBSTADT

HENRY JOSEPH HAUB
1810 - 1892  Emigrated from Darmstadt Hesse, Germany.  In 1832, he built Haub's Station.  In 1852, a long the Evansville and Crawfordsville Railroad, his general store was located on the south east corner of what is now known as Main and Gibson Streets Haubstadt was founded by and named for in in 1855

He also served as the Governor of Johnson Township until 1868.  "Henry was a man of unusual pride, vision and community.   These virtues are his legacy, a legacy which survives in those who came after him and those yet to come."  Dedicated June 11, 2005 on the town's 150th anniversary by the Honorable Senator Lindel Hume.
