| We began our westward trek about 3:30 PM after the Bates family reunion on Saturday, July 15, 2000. After a few welcome rest stops along the way, we ended up 815 miles from home. |

| Lewis and Clark State Park Our first campground was the Lewis and Clark State Park in Onawa, Iowa. Two nights were spent on the shores of a picturesque lake. The weather was delicious compared to what we had left behind us in Nashville. |
