Chief Sakpe was the leader of a Mdewakanton Dakota village on these lands in the mid 1800's. He is a descendent of the first Chief Sakpe, who was the leader for which the City of Shakopee is named. The original village was located just north of this reservation near the banks of the Minnesota River. Commonly called Tinta Otunwe (village of the prairie) it was a place of summer bark lodges, winter tipis and plentiful corn fields with the river providing natural protection for its people. Today burial mounds in this area are a reminder of Chief Sakpe's village and the rich heritage of its original inhabitants.
This statue, sculpted by Potowatomi artist Denny Haskew, was inspired by the Chief Sakpe quote. Dedicated July 28, 2005.

EDITORIAL As Chief Explorer for Nostalgiaville, I enjoy traveling to casinos in different parts of the country. Do I gamble, you ask. No I don't gamble. I play nickel slots. This is not gambling. It is simply making of making donations to the casino's I play at. I know that over time I will always lose... but for that one night I have a chance to win big... and that's fun. It's the only justification I have and the only one I need to continue playing.

A Rock Collecting Adventure Near Prior Lake
I drove a few miles from Prior Lake and found a site to collect rocks for the Rock Map back at the Farm. I also found a paved trail and had an enjoyable two hour walk hike on it.
