STATES NAVAL GUN (32 Pounder Muzzle Loading Cannon) The Navy adopted this gun in 1844. The gun became the primary cannon of the Navy and was used during the Civil War. The canon weighs 3300 pounds, and had a maximum range of 4911 feet, the cannon ball weighed 32 pounds, used a powder charge of 4.5 pounds and had a crew of 9 seamen. This cannon was manufactured around 1850 by Fort Pitt Foundry, Pittsburgh, PA. In 1897, the John Marsh Post of the Grand Army of the Republic donated this cannon to Redwood County as a memorial to Veterans who served during the Civil War. |

REDWOOD
STOCKADE In 1864 Colonel Sam McPhail erected the Redwood Stockade. It covered half a city block, located 200 feet west of this point. Built of poles driven into a sod bank. It served as protection for McPhail's cabin, post office and other buildings within. |
