long before the arrival of the French A subdivision called Summerville was established on the Point in 1845 Lots were not purchased until the development of the canning industry around 1885 Early inhabitants were Polish from Baltimore and Yugoslavians from Louisiana A large migration from Vietnam occurred in the 1970's Biloxi had several hundred fishing boats by the 1920's The average schooner length was 40 to 50 feet in 1915 50 to 60 foot ships were common after 1915 A 69 foot Mary Margaret appeared in the Regatta in 1929 The schooners were converted to power dredgers in 1933 The Barataria Canning Company opened a factory at the Point in 1882 Another factory, the Lopez, Dunbar's Sons and Company, opened in 1884 Biloxi led the world in seafood canning by 1903 |

Louisiana in early 1700's Fort occupied by Governor Blenville during the John Law Settlement venture, 1720-1722 Boundaries extended up the Mississippi Valley to Canada and the Rocky Mountains |
