| OLD TOWN OF COLDWATER (1856 - 1942) On this site and north of this point is the former site of the Town of Coldwater. The town was founded in 1854 and incorporated in 1873. The corporate limits were one mile square. In the 1930's the U S Army Corps of Engineers began plans to build Arkabuda Dam which when completed impounding Arkabuda Lake, would flood the Town of Coldwater. In 1942, the U S Government moved the town and approximately 700 residents at a cost of $250,000 to the present location 1 mile south of here. At that time Ms Smith H Cooper was mayor. |
