Our next port of entry where we spent two interesting nights was Gold Beach, Oregon.  We stayed within a stone's throw of the beach at the Oceanside RV Park.  We crossed over an old and interesting bridge on our way into the big city. wpe952.jpg (4283 bytes) wpe94F.jpg (5181 bytes)
Paul decided to venture out on the jetty that protected the Rogue River channel from being filled in by the relentless ocean currents.  The trip required hopping  from rock to rock for about a fourth of a mile.  The view of the waves from the end of the jetty made the trip worth while. wpe93E.jpg (6361 bytes) wpe969.jpg (6014 bytes)

I observed a couple of sea lions in the ocean near the end of the jetty... along with some birds that were hanging out. wpe93A.jpg (4743 bytes) wpe8F4.jpg (4294 bytes) wpe93C.jpg (2833 bytes) wpe8D0.jpg (4992 bytes) wpe93B.jpg (4806 bytes)
One of our rock books pointed out an agate collecting area on the north side of Rouge River entrance.  We spent several hours at this site collecting rocks and freezing our you-know-what's off in the cold wind from the ocean. wpe933.jpg (1893 bytes) wpe93F.jpg (4518 bytes) wpe94B.jpg (2965 bytes) wpe940.jpg (4127 bytes) wpe94C.jpg (6279 bytes)

GOLD BEACH CAT HOUSES

On our way out to the rock collecting beach, we passed by Gold Beach's "cat houses"... not establishments of ill repute... really cat houses!  Some one had built houses and formed a row along the river bank.  Every night food was left for the animals... including a rambunctious raccoon.  We also caught a couple of wild flower shots at the beach. wpe8DC.jpg (5564 bytes) wpe932.jpg (6815 bytes)

UP THE ROUGE RIVER... WITHOUT A PADDLE

The next day, I took an adventure trip into the interior along the Rouge River.  I caught some pictures of white water being traversed by a jet boat along with trees, mountains, and a lonely eagle's nest. wpe942.jpg (5294 bytes) wpe97D.jpg (5212 bytes)
