| The town was originally called Winter's
Gap The name was changed to Oliver's The post office in Oliver was established with Richard Oliver as postmaster in 1826 The post office was closed in September 1866 and reopened as Oliver Springs in November 1866 Moses Winter was one of the first settlers of the area Joseph Estabrook, President of the East Tennessee retired to the area in 1850 Joseph and Ann Richards and their family came from Pennsylvania and settled in the area about 1880 |
