| Pikeville developed as a
frontier village in early 1800’s It grew up around a large spring on western bank of the Sequatchie River Charles Love purchased 36 acres of land for county seat, 1816 Purchase price was $110.25, and took in the old frontier village Pikeville incorporated in the 1830’s Stage route from Knoxville to Huntsville, Alabama passed through town City had population of 200 by 1860 Pikeville occupied by Federal troops in June 1863 Cities incorporation abolished during Reconstruction in 1870’s The Nashville-Chattanooga-St Louis Railroad built line through city, 1890’s The Pikeville Banner, a weekly newspaper started publishing in 1890’s The city incorporated for a second time in early 1900’s Pikeville is only incorporated town in the county |
