ADELPHIA WATERFRONT TRAIL

We could refer to this section of trail as "The Miracle Mile" because the scenery from every vantage point is overwhelming, particularly along the river with the Nashville skyline on the opposite bank.  The Adelphia Waterfront Trail circles the Titians Football Stadium and features an impressive panoramic view of the Nashville skyline.  it is also the center point of multiple other bicycle trails that lead to more magic places.  Many vistas await the "lazy-rider" who just wants to wander aimlessly around the massive parking areas surrounding the stadium.

1  (MILE 0.0)

The trail starts at Mile 0.0 on the doorstep of Adelphia Stadium, home of the Tennessee Titans professional football team.

Begin the trail on a wide sidewalk or in the road (Victory Drive).
If there are no events in progress at the stadium, all roads and endless parking lots are quests for bicycle riding.  Point your bicycle  toward the river and the Nashville skyline reaches out for you.

2 (MILE 0.15)

At Mile 0.15 the trail turns right, but you may choose to ride to the left or straight to the waterfront to ponder at the bigger than life, awesome skyline that fronts you.

REFLECTIONS ON THE WATERFRONT

In the 1980's and 1990's B. T. (Before Titans) the riverfront on the East Side was rough and chaotic.  Industrial and commercial activities had cycled through many years of prosperity and depression, leaving many skeletons of rust and decay in the wake... not a pretty place visit.  Though there was much controversy surrounding the building of Adelphia Stadium, the projects greatest reward is perhaps making the area... a most pretty place to visit.
To follow are pictures of the East side of the river taken from the downtown side about 1997.

When the bridge was built, the East Bank was populated by industries that used barges for transportation on the Cumberland River.  Some of the industrial artifacts remain today as sculptural elements along the East Bank Greenway.

After passing a view of the Woodland Street Bridge, the trail takes another right turn in its relentless encirclement of the stadium.

Flowers around the stadium are a treat in the spring and summer.

We're rounding the turn and heading into the home stretch... with our head filled with images galore...

END (MILE 0.9)

The "Miracle Mile" is finished... want to do it again?   Bet you couldn't resist some of those side excursions into the parking lots... and that you peddled more than a mile...
