Born Hanover NH April 15, 1782
Graduated from Darthmouth 1800
Served in Massachusetts House of Representatives 1807 and 1811
Commissioned lieutenant-colonel and rose to rank of Brigadier General
Distinguished officer of the War of 1812
Resigned from army 1820
Settled in Jackson La and entered state politics-elected state senator
Served as Democrat in Congress 1835-1839
Died West Feliciana Parish, March 2, 1839
November 4th, 1850, war department in honor of Gen. Ripley, announced that Fort Ripley was named after him
