Stanley, Tenn.

Howdy, Miss. Mary,

My Darling One, as I am sitting here on this raft of logs this lonely
Sunday eve, I thought I would try to write you a few lines to let you know
that I am well at the present, hoping these few lines may come safe to hand
and find you all well. . . .
(This letter postmarked at South Pittsburg, Tennessee, because the river
was still  high.)
