MONDAY, April 19, 1999 pril 19, 1999

We take a late morning walk at Moss Wright Park.  The park has been created from an old plantation in Goodlettsville, Tennessee.  The home site still stands and people can tour the inside.  Once a year there is a re-enactment of that time and era.   Participants dress in period clothing and show the visitors how fences were made.   Sassafras tea is a treat.  There is a village blacksmith and so many other experiences.  Today we take a one mile walk to enjoy the spring flowers and anything else that comes our way.

wpe996.jpg (8120 bytes) One of our first meetings is with a Buckeye tree.  Then we come across a community of baby toadstools.  wpe9C0.jpg (7409 bytes)
We see how the warm sun plays magic with the color of tall grass.  Lush clover covers the ground.  There is a beautiful path with spreading trees shading the walk way. wpe9AD.jpg (13394 bytes) wpe9DC.jpg (7360 bytes)
wpe9D1.jpg (8102 bytes) And the sun casts its' own paint brush on a dandelion and purple irises still bloom wild from the old plantation. wpe9CA.jpg (7937 bytes)
Look at the baby face in this precious half inch greenery.  See it is smiling at us! wpe9D9.jpg (5531 bytes)
Pansies have been planted in abundance.  Each have their own expressive faces.   If you listen closely, you can hear them singing, "Oh what a beautiful morning, Oh what a beautiful day".

wpe9CB.jpg (8845 bytes) The iris is Tennessee's' state flower.  Sometime they are called flags.  We find a "blue flag".  Don't even ask what the orange thing is but somehow the eight year old thought it should be labeled a flower. wpe9A9.jpg (14920 bytes)
We find deer tracks from the early morn.  Have you ever watched dogs take their own walk?  They enjoy nature all by themselves; taking their own strolls without a master.  We know because we found paw evidence.

wpe9D5.jpg (11785 bytes) A lush creek meanders along the park's path.  We stop and listen to the water cascading over rocks in natures prayer to the soul.  We are glad to be alive. wpe9D6.jpg (8996 bytes)
We pass near another place along the creek.  The water is so still that you can see the reflection of a budding tree captured on camera. wpe9B7.jpg (11057 bytes) wpe970.jpg (11112 bytes)
wpe9B6.jpg (6342 bytes) Sir Knight sees Mr. and Mrs. Mallard.  They are looking for their spring home.   It will probably be water front.  We sit on a hill in the shade and hear the most beautiful Cardinal express its best request for a female companion.  With a voice like his a female should surrender by nightfall. wpe9E0.jpg (10258 bytes)
wpe9B4.jpg (5851 bytes) Mr. Spider basks in the sun and if you look closely there is a well spun web in the base of a tree. wpe9A1.jpg (8572 bytes)
The grass has such a wonderful smell.  I love the scent of the wild onions growing. wpe9D7.jpg (6960 bytes) wpe9CC.jpg (9611 bytes) wpeA1D.jpg (7809 bytes)
wpe9B3.jpg (5672 bytes) wpe9DF.jpg (7142 bytes) Sir Knight is looking for arrowheads or perhaps a rock or two.  He gets to run around half naked through the woods.  Why can't women?
wpe9AB.jpg (103363 bytes)
wpe9E1.jpg (7085 bytes) wpe9DD.jpg (3821 bytes) We finish our visit and the people of the woods bid us farewell and wait for us to come again. wpe995.jpg (5121 bytes) wpe9A8.jpg (6228 bytes)
