HISTORY of PLEASANT HILL

PLEASANT HILL TOWN SIGNS 
Pleasant Hill was incorporated in 1903. Pleasant Hill Academy, a secondary school, was founded here in 1884 by the American Missionary Association of the Congregational Churches to provide an education for the young people of the Cumberland Plateau. Its contribution enriched the quality of living throughout the region. Improved public schools caused the academy to close its doors in 1947.

Pioneer Hall part of original Academy
Listed on National Historic Register
Now houses museum
Wheeler Hall was girls dormitory
Farm bought to supply school with garden products and milk
A four year course was accredited by Southern College Association
Academy buildings sold to Cumberland County for Pleasant Hill School, 1947

Located in Pleasant Hill Community
Building listed on National Historic Register, 1978
