After we returned from our adventure, we bagged a few choice rocks from the banks of the Columbia River next to our campground.  The next day, Paul took a discovery trip toward Mt Adams, while Cheri worked on a rock painting.   A couple of along-the-way pictures of stacked rocks caught the attention of the eight year old. wpe8F0.jpg (6431 bytes) wpe8F1.jpg (4087 bytes) wpe8F3.jpg (6404 bytes)

The road toward Mt. Adams crossed the Klickitat River and its accompanying deep canyon.  Mt Adams loomed ahead like an elusive dream.

wpe8F8.jpg (4534 bytes) I wanted to get to the snow pack, so I took a bumpy gravel road up from the base of the mountain. There was a giant lava field near the base and I found a trail that, I thought, would wind through the lava and to the snow.   After two and a half miles through a deep woods, I lost track of the snow and had to beat a hasty retreat before dark.  The scenery and the flowers still made the trip worth while.
