HISTORY OF BARABOO

 GOLLMAR BROTHERS CIRCUS
Fred, Walt, Charles, Jake & Ben Gollmar (first cousins of the Ringling Brothers), founded their circus in Baraboo in 1891.  Winter quarters was located on five acres along the north bank of the Baraboo River just east of this bridge.  They began as a horse drawn wagon show.  From 1903 through 1916, when they sold out, their circus moved by railroad on 25 cars, making it one of the major circuses in America.

EDITORIAL
As Chief Explorer for Nostalgiaville, I enjoy traveling to casinos in different parts of the country.  Do I gamble, you ask.  No I don't gamble.  I play nickel slots.  This is not gambling.    This is simply  making donations to the casino's I play at.  I know that over time I will always lose... but for one night I have a chance to win big, and that's fun.  It's the only justification I have and the only one I need to continue playing.

If you are a nickel slot player, you will be overwhelmed at the quantity of machines at Mystic Lake.  It's like stepping back into the '90's with the good old machines everywhere.  The only problem is that you can't win... not even enough to lose with dignity.  You almost never hit a feature, and on the rare occasions you do, it pays a pittance.  If you play low denoms here... you will walk out mad and disgusted!!
