ROPER LAKE STATE PARK, ARIZONA

An uneventful trip leads us to Safford, Arizona where we spend the night at the Roper Lake State Park. Paul talks with the campground hosts about rock prospects for the area and strikes out for an exploratory run south of Safford into the lonely desert.  After a 60 mile drive, he returns to the RV, works on the computer, and we await another days adventures.

We take a walk by the lake.  I've gotten my star on the calendar already so the "Walker Stalker" won't come and get me tonight. roperl53.jpg (7678 bytes) roperl54.jpg (6991 bytes) roperl55.jpg (9273 bytes)

Paul has been given various titles: Sir Knight, Buddy, Eight Year Old, Big Dog, Tooth Fairy, Southern Gentleman, Woobie Pillow and Body Heater.  He does everyone of his jobs to perfection.  He is a true southern gentleman; he NEVER forgets to open a door for me.  When we rock hunt he takes title as mule.  He is very gentle and so kind and even when I play co-pilot, which is often, he does not get upset with me... not ever!

It's time to leave again, so we pack up and head up the road for a new day and a new adventure.  A glance at the odometer tells us that we are 1934 miles away from home if we were to retrace our route from here

We stop at the food store and K-Mart to replenish vitals and vittles.  Now we are on our way to Globe, Arizona.  We pass through the city of Pima, whose logo is "Cotton, Copper and Cattle".  We climb in altitude and drive through an Apache Indian Reservation.

Twenty-eight more miles and we will be in Globe.   There is snow high on the mountain peaks and we see our first Saguaro cactus.  They are the ones that look like men being held up at gun point.
