RIDDLE FIELD, CLEWISTON
Between September 1941 and September 1945, 1325 British Cadets and 109 American Cadets were trained and graduated as pilots.  The 28 British Cadets who were killed during training lie in the British plot in Arcadia Cemetery, and are remembered each year by the people of that city.

LAKE OKEECHOBEE SCENIC TRAIL

A great bicycle trail circles Lake Okeechobee, covers over 200 miles, and has an access point in Clewiston.  Paul, Nostalgiaville's Chief Explorer, covered about 20 miles of the trail on bicycle and bagged a few pictures in route.

I had discovered a giant blue frog in a playground while cycling through Clewiston's Civic Center Park, but paid little attention to it.  When confronted with a blue frog clone stalking me along the trail, I decided an immediate turn-around and a strategic retreat was in order.

HERBERT HOOVER DIKE
Started 1932 - Completed 1938.  During the 1926 and 1928 hurricanes, 2,500 lives were lost in the Lake Okeechobee area due to inadequate flood control.  President Herbert Hoover personally supported and was directly responsible for early Federal construction of Lake Okeechobee levees for the protection of life and property.  By act of congress July 14, 1960 the Lake Okeechobee Levees were designated the Herbert Hoover Dike in commemoration of President Herbert Hoover's humanitarian efforts and interest in public safety, which permitted the safe development of the rich potential of this region.
