wpe92C.jpg (9708 bytes) We decide to eat a buffet brunch at the Palace Station Casino on our way to Red Rock Canyon... but first, we  drown a few coins in the slot machines.  The meal is fantastic... much better than our results from the slot machines.  On our way out of town, we cruise down a long stretch of road away from the dazzling city... and all of a sudden there is no longer a city.   We are in the desert.  I think the city is a mirage.  Now I know where one of the casinos got its name.
wpe922.jpg (6325 bytes) There are beautiful mountains here and we arrive at Red Rock Canyon and... WOW... the rocks (very big rocks I might add) are deep rust colored... red with pink and yellow-gold bands in them.  wpe92B.jpg (8071 bytes) wpe926.jpg (5779 bytes)

wpe92D.jpg (5699 bytes) wpe8FA.jpg (7716 bytes) People are climbing the rocks like Billy goats.  We walk down a steep sandy path.  I am holding on to the rocks.  I find pink sand and so my Sir Billy goes back to the Tracker to get me a sandwich bag so I can be the proud owner of pink sand.  I still haven't learned the values in life.  Pink sand is pretty important to a four year old.
wpe92F.jpg (6273 bytes) Sir Billy goat climbs the mountain.  I watch Billy cavort. There is a girl sitting on the rock next to me watching her Billy.  We decide we are chickens not Billy goats.

Sir Billy comes back and his eyes are lit up.  I know what that means.  Every time he comes up to me with that expression I know he is going to tell me of the adventure he is going on.  He has decided to take a run through the canyon.  I will pick him up at the next pullover.  It is 85 degrees.  I pant back up the hill stopping several times, wishing I had water and finally make it back to the Tracker.

I take some pictures and begin to see faces peering at me from out of the rocks. You see I have my own adventures too. wpe8F6.jpg (31919 bytes) Click on pictures to enlarge
wpe940.jpg (3626 bytes) I go to the next look out point. There is a mountain climber going straight up the huge vertical rock wall.  We continue our drive through the canyon.  There are rocks everywhere.  We stop and hunt for the rocks we think are treasures.  Some rocks have stripes in them and various different designs.

wpe8FC.jpg (4349 bytes) I pick up some dried flowers and wonder if I can get them back home in one piece.  A few cars have stopped along the road.  We pull in behind them to see what is going on and there are two wild burros on the side of the road.  I think they got here from the early miners who must have died when they were gold mining.  Then one day one burro met another burro...
