DEMING, NEW MEXICO

We are literally off in a cloud of dust from Cabella Lake State Park... in a hardy hi-ho Tracker away.  Our mileage is 1707 since leaving home... a year or two ago.  The park has a big lake in the desert.  We are going to circle back through Deming on our way west for a rock show and flea market.

By the way... I don't hurt much out here.  We decide that it is probably due to the lack of humidity or the lack of what I am allergic to.

We cross over the Rio Grande River.  I've heard of all of these places we are seeing... while watching Hoppalong Cassidy.  It's a shame... I still don't have my cowboy suit.  There really are adobe houses here and the people's clothing is... well... south western style.  Gee... I can't imagine why.  I really like the style.  Long skirts, white or light blue blouses with a colorful vest, boots that are long or ankle length, and most people have hats... not dressy ones but floppy hats.

We go to the flea market in Deming.  Paul buys a Kentucky Derby glass for a dollar. I buy the top of a used boot... yes, that's what I said, a used boot.   It's sewn together at the bottom, and has fringe on it... and is made into a carrying thing.  I can't call it a purse.  It's just an old boot top that can hold things in if you want it to.  It's interesting what people can find at flea markets that they just can't live without.

We go on to the rock show.  Wow... what beautiful rocks!   Now, I have found, that there are a few of these rocks that a person just can't live without   Can you imagine... buying rocks.  wpe82C.jpg (4331 bytes) wpe833.jpg (10384 bytes)

Which reminds me, when Paul got up this morning he said he was "coming out of the closet".  I have known all the time we have been together that he had a secret that would come out sooner or later.   I looked at him and he had on his Coleman Crystal Mine T-shirt.  He said that he was finally making his announcement... that he was truly a ROCK HOUND... and that he just couldn't keep denying it any longer!!
