BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY, NORTH CAROLINA

We take a ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway.   We pull off at a scenic stop just before entering a tunnel looming ahead.

Sir Knight takes a hike on the right of the road while I look for rocks on the side of the road.  I hear water and walk to the other side where I find a wonderful little waterfall.

Sir Knight returns and we find a path leading up the beautiful mountain.

The path is steep and we stop along the way and take pictures of the mountain laurel flowers

We start picking up rocks with mica in them.  I find two small ones with pink nuggets of garnets in them.  .As we continue up the mountain we meet a group of hikers.  I talk to one lady who is over 69 years.  The group consists of four women and one token man.  They hike twice a week.  Betty has hiked the Grand Canyon from the north rim to the south rim.  I call sir Knight over to talk with her because they both have hiked the canyon.  They had stories to tell each other.

In an area near the top of the mountain a doctor had built a home at the turn of the century.  We see the stones from the cistern and water still flows from it.  It is an exhilarating walk to say the least. My calf muscles burn but it's worth the view.  Sir Knight says, "no pain, no gain".   This walk was my choice and I love it pain or not.  What a beautiful place this man lived.  We return to the waterfall and sit for awhile.  I can imagine the fairies and elves that play here.  We take some pictures of some hidden treasures along the path.

We head back to the campground and stop along the Blue Ridge Parkway. wpeF6.jpg (4816 bytes) wpeE4.jpg (7366 bytes) wpeA1.jpg (9966 bytes) We stop for an early dinner at the Poseidon restaurant.   After dinner we do a show-and-tell on our rock finds.

We try fishing again, but don't catch anything.  It's very relaxing sitting on the dock watching the birds swim on the water.   A fog starts to cover the lake.  It looks like white smoked tendrils crossing over it.  It is mysterious and yet enchanting.
