CHEROKEE, NORTH CAROLINA VISITED... 5-23-99

We leave Pisgah and head for Cherokee.  It takes about an hour, and we find a nice RV Park by a creek.  A lot of RV's here are enclosed with porches and many of the people have golf carts to drive.  It looks like a little retirement community.  We take a nap and then head for Harrah's gambling casino on the Indian reservation. It is a lot of fun. We have a dinner buffet in the Casino.  We win enough to play for four hours and then give the money back to the casino.

We do show and tell back at the RV.  It's a lot of fun to see what each of us have picked as treasures.  We take a ride to a beautiful park in the middle of Cherokee. There is a little island in the middle of the city with a beautiful wooden bridge.  I meet a man and wife with their grand daughter from Lakeland, Florida.  They are here on vacation.

We wouldn't stop long enough to feed the Tyler's, so they resorted to a roadside trash can

We paused along the way and each picked a rock face from a roadside bluff.  wpe291.jpg (5347 bytes) wpe292.jpg (4479 bytes) wpe293.jpg (6740 bytes)

We found Cherokee before dark and checked the Tyler's in a motel, parked the RV at the Smokey Mountain RV Park, ate dinner, and drowned a few quarters at Harrah's Casino in Cherokee.

After a breakfast, we headed toward the mountains for more leaf-looking.  We stopped for a rest as we entered the Pisgah National Forest.

Chattanooga was reached about 4:00 AM and we checked into the Holiday Inn Choo Choo.  Our rooms were one half of a train car.  An interesting dinner was eaten at Chattanooga's historic train station.  Paul took a late night run into downtown Chattanooga to round out another fine day.

Harrahs Casino at Cherokee
Your explorers, not being gamblers at heart, but finding great entertainment in gambling, spent some time in Cherokee's Casino.  We found it to be friendly, but very boring and not at all fun to play their slot machines.  The machines are almost all the same and winning enough to keep playing is impossible.  We observed practically no one winning, and the excitement level was almost non-existent throughout the whole casino.  Our conclusion was that the operators are greedy with their pay back percentage to the point of ruining their casino.

There are many more casino's throughout the country where you can have fun.  Take our advice and don't waste your time at this one.

To follow is a  composite of  pictures showing Harrah's Casino in Cherokee
